A lovely quiet location, the chalet very clean, well equipped and comfortable, located within lovely garden with giant chess, BBQ and seating. A short walk to the lovely remote pebbled beach. Fresh Lemons and fruit from the orchard, all added to an excellent 5 days stay. Though most of all is the wonderful welcome from Sandra and Neil and their help and advice on the sights and sounds of the area.
Roger Evans, UK (February 2018)
We stayed two nights at Clive Colonial Cottages when visiting the Napier / Hawke’s Bay area of New Zealand. The cottage we stayed in, Fantail Cottage, was immaculate. I would offer that Clive Colonial Cottages are perfect for a stay in the Hawke’s Bay area. Great location, well appointed and with a comfortable bed affording the best night’s sleep since leaving home some two weeks before!
David Smart, NZ (February 2018)
We stayed for 4 nights with three grown adult family members and experienced a tremendous time due to the tranquil nature of the Kingfisher Cottage. Nothing was missed and the cottage had everything you could want.
The whole family enjoyed the stay and the closeness of the cottage to the vineyards. Looking forward to staying again!!
Tony Kane, NZ (February 2018)
We must have stayed at Clive Colonial Cottages a dozen times or more over the years and it never disappoints. Lovely tranquil surroundings, immaculately presented & maintained cottages, if you want a stress free getaway to recharge your batteries then this is the place to be.
Brett Jones, NZ (January 2018)
All the little extras were a welcome surprise and the cottage was immaculate and tastefully decorated. Very well equipped with a beautiful garden, and communal barbecue facilities which as the weather was wet we did not use, but they looked great and in a pretty garden setting. We did appreciate the excellent selection of DVDs and found the cottage very comfortable. It is in an excellent position to easily reach all the attractions of Hawkes Bay including Cape Kidnappers, and Neil and Sandra were most welcoming and helpful hosts. We had a wonderful stay and would love to return sometime.
Rosemary Grant, UK (January 2018)
A beautiful place to stay. Clean and very comfortable, our hosts were so friendly and obliging. They left their own fresh eggs for our breakfast, with bread and orange juice, they really did go the extra mile. We stayed in the Tui cottage, the grounds were gorgeous, we could wander around and there was so much to enjoy in this pretty setting... Close to Hastings and Napier, in a lovely tranquil garden setting. The cottages are very private from each other, it didn't feel like any other motel we have stayed at. We loved it, and we'll be back! thank you.....
Alan & Elizabeth Debreceny, Australia (December 2017)
Just returned from our stay and can't speak highly enough of the lovely property, all that was thoughtfully supplied and our gracious hosts. Have already recommended to our friends and plan on staying again in the future. Thanks so much!
Karen & Andy, NZ (December 2017)
As a group of five couples we stayed at Clive Colonial Cottages for a weekend away and to ride the trail to the wineries. We couldn't recommend this place more highly. Sandra and Neil have provided many thoughtful touches in the cottages and the beautiful gardens are wonderful. Thank you!!
Wendy Applegate, NZ (November 2017)
Loved the peace and quiet, extras and access to the coast. You went the extra mile for us. Highly recommended.
Yvonne and Bill (October 2017)
We stayed at the Kingfisher house across the road, and loved it. The hosts were amazing, providing us with fresh eggs, bread when we arrived, and gave us grapefruit from their trees which was so nice. They really took care of us. The house was beautiful. We loved staying there and will definitely be back. Thank you so much for everything!!
Philippa Race, NZ, (October 2017)
We have just enjoyed a peaceful, relaxing week at Bellbird cottage while attending our son's wedding in the area. The cottage was very well appointed and our every need was catered for. The beds were very comfortable and we had the best sleep away from home ever. Catered first breakfast was great, farm fresh eggs with fruit and cereal and a great selection of quality spreads and beverages. The hosts were welcoming but not intrusive - we will be recommending this venue to everyone.
Ian and Clare Treloar, NZ (March 2017)
We loved our stay-the cottage was so comfortable & so well equipped & furnished. The gardens provided privacy and were beautiful. The games(both indoor & out) were a bonus. Wonderful touch to provide breakfast provisions for our first day. Will definitely recommend and stay again. Tripadvisor needs to be informed-another happy guest!!!!!!!
Christina & Luke, NZ (March 2017)
We had the best stay at the cottage, we were in Fantail, Sandra is the best host. The setting, the room, everything was just perfect. Congratulations on such a great business.
Libby Ussher, Australia (March 2017)
A very lovely place to stay, peaceful, beautiful surroundings. Service was amazing, breakfast was extra bonus and superb. Very comfortable bed too. Would definitely stay here again.
Christine and Ben , NZ (Feb 2017)
We have finally arrived back to the Mount, now it is time to say how much we enjoyed our stay at The Tui Cottage. You certainly think of everything to make the stay so memorable, from our arrival to departure time. The Cottage is so nicely appointed,to give a homely feel, clean, comfortable & cosy. The fresh farm eggs, butter ,bread & spreads....why would anyone ask for more? The Woodland area is so tranquil. Taking a short walk to the beach is great too, shame we never had time to walk to Black Bridge this visit. We will recommend your property to Friends & Family. All the Best for your future venture. Thanks a bunch.
Elizabeth & Murray (Jan 2017)
Another marvellous stay at the tranquil cottages. The place is so tidy inside with beautiful cottage gardens and proximity to walking along beach front. Sandra and Neil are so kind and generous. This time we had children with us and they loved the games room/DVD collection. Brilliant!
Fiona and Vince Sharp, NZ (March 2017)
If we stay in the area again, we will be heading straight for Bellbird Cottage. Wonderful hosts, beautiful setting, easy access to Hawke's Bay attractions and events. Many thanks for the breakfast supplies and the honey.
Bev & David, NZ, (February 2017)
We spent a long weekend at the cottages, they were clean well appointed with very amiable hosts Sandra and her husband were very accommodating. We where on a car club event and decided to do a wine tour, Sandra arranged it all it was a great solution because we could sample with no fear of stepping outside the laws. Our party consisted of 11 people so we took over the whole complex, the three bedroom house was a great central location for us all to get together to sample the deli item's and wine we purchased on our tour. The 3 bedroom was our favourite and we intend booking that again very soon. This would be a phenomenal location for a wedding.
Kim Wilson, NZ, (October 2016)
The Fantail Cottage was the perfect base for our recent 3-day visit to Hawke's Bay. From the friendly welcome upon arrival right through to the farewell chat upon departure, our hosts provided everything we required to enjoy a very comfortable stay at Clive Colonial Cottages. The cottage was clean, very well maintained, and the bundle of food items (milk, juice, bread, cereals, fruit, eggs) was a nice surprise. With some helpful tips from Sandra about the Hawke's Bay area, we were able to pack plenty of sightseeing and wine tasting into our short visit. We could easily have spent more time exploring the area from the conveniently located cottages. We were so glad we made the trip to Hawke's Bay, and chose these cottages for our accommodation.
Rex and Debbie Phillips, Australia (June 2016)
Myself and 4 friends stayed in the 3 bedroom house for the Hawkes Bay marathon. Fantastic place, plenty of room, had everything we needed, and nice and handy to everything. Great hosts.
Teresa Smeed, NZ, (May 2016)
Sandra is a wonderful host. We stayed in Bellbird Cottage for a week. The setting is very tranquil with lovely grounds. Napier, Hastings and Havelock North are all short drives away but there are walking/cycle tracks on your doorstep. There is much to do in this area so if you don't need to be staying in the city then Clive Colonial Cottages is a great choice.
Bob and Nora , NZ (May 2016)
We have just had 2 days staying in the Bellbird Cottage which was beautifully appointed with everything we could wish for. Sandra went out of her way to assist us in getting some important documentation away whilst there. Fantastic, warm and friendly place to stay. Highly recommend.
Oliver & Janet Young, NZ (April 2016)
Excellent stay, a very peaceful, tranquil stay, just a few cottages so you feel like you have the place to yourselves. Great location as long as you have a vehicle because you have access to loads of fun activities. Very friendly people with attention to detail to ensure you have everything you need. We felt right at home and would highly recommend staying for at least 2-3 nights if not more!
Jim and Dianna Flynt, USA (March 2016)
We - two couples stayed two nights last weekend (Oct 15) to do some of the Hawkes bay cycle trails. We were delighted with the 2 bedroom Bellbird cottage, fabulous garden, with BBQ, picnic table and the help your self to the citrus fruit trees . It was the perfect venue to go on the ride to clifton and for the Tukituki loop and explore by car further a field. The supplies (eggs ,cereal, tinned fruit) for the 1st morning breakfast were a lovely touch. I have been telling my workmates what a wonderful place to stay it was.
Lee Sawyer, NZ (October 2015)
Bellbird Cottage for 4 people was ideal. Sandra, Neil and family very welcoming. Even easy access for electric car charging! Very comfortable beds and everything spotless. Loved the breakfast for the first morning and helpful reviews of local eating places. Proximity to Cape Kidnappers, Hastings, Napier and Havelock North ensures short travel each day.
Robin and Scott, NZ (October 2015)
I so loved staying in the Tui Cottage recently in September 2015. I was travelling alone and felt very safe in this cottage complex. Everything was just right and the bed was very very comfortable. If the weather had been better, such a shame it was raining so much, I would have explored the gorgeous grounds!! Well worth the money spent and I would highly recommend.
I had business in Napier and it was a very short commute between Napier and Clive. Thank you for a lovely stay!
Francie Morgan, NZ (August 2015)
Clive Cottages provided us with a sanctuary, a tranquil place to be restored, to sleep well, and to enjoy the Hawkes Bay countryside. The free range eggs supplied for breakfast, and citrus trees we could pick from were a wonderful surprise! Thank you.
Irene Parminter, NZ (July 2015)
We stayed two nights at Colonial Cottages last week. Very peaceful, friendly hosts. Cottages lovely, clean andwell equipped. Happy to refer to other friends.
Gloria & Geoff Collier, NZ (July 2015)
Fabulous stay in fantail for a long weekend winter break. A very comfortable stay in a peaceful location. Really looking forward to coming back soon.
Julia, NZ (July 2015)
After a hard few months of work in a new country, I was looking forward to a couple of nights away. My stay at Clive Colonial Cottages was brilliant. The welcome by Sandra was open and warm, the cottage was beautifully appointed, warm and just perfect for a couple of days away. The environment was peaceful and allowed me to gain the required rest. The silence of the environment was tremendous. For a light sleeper, this was the perfect place to spend a few days. There were nice touches as well.
Breakfast goodies that made the first day so easy. Farm fresh eggs a plenty, a great little kitchen fully stocked with utensils, and wonderful local coffee, for the plunger, right there on the counter top. What a blessing!
Thank you Sandra for a great couple of nights rest! Would I recommend Clive Colonial Cottages to others? Absolutely! And I already have.
David Leary, Australia (June 2015)
We had a delightful 3-night stay in Tui Cottage. Welcoming and very attentive hosts, quiet location and well-equipped and comfortable cottage.
Wonderful to have first breakfast supplied. Highly recommended.
Gerrit & Jenny Beker, NZ (May 2015)
This was one the finds of our road trip around the north island. The very friendly Sandra has made these really lovely cottages. The attention to detail is of the highest order. Great location just by the under used part of the easy peddling gravel path incorporating our favourite winery Elephant Hill. I have already recommended this to several people, so i presume that says it all.. Keep up the good work and if we get this far away from London again we will be back for sure!!!
John & Dee Bennewith, London UK, (March 2014)
Lovely place to stay - we have stayed several times at the Cottages and they are always beautifully presented and spotlessly clean. Facilities are excellent and a great spot to get away from it all. The hosts are excellent, very helpful & friendly.
Rochelle Jones, (February 2015)
As they say appearances can be deceptive. From the road you cannot see the three gorgeous little cottages hidden away down the long drive. The cottages are a peaceful enclave set in a tranquil hedged garden. Beautifully fitted out with modern decor, they feel very spacious and luxurious. Just sorry we could not stay longer than one night as we booked at the last minute on a busy weekend. We would have no hesitation in recommending this B and B to our friends or anyone looking for a peaceful hide-away.
Martin and Gabrielle, NZ (February 2015)
Last week our party of 4 hired the 2 1 bedroom cottages. The cottages were perfect. We loved being able to sit on the verandah and enjoy the beautiful garden setting. We were on a bike riding holiday so location was perfect as we were very close to the trail. Having the use of the outdoor barbecue and garden furniture was great. Our hosts were delightful.
We absolutely recommend Clive Colonial Cottages.
Alex Watson, Australia (February 2015)
We stayed in one of the cottages in November 2014. Great place to stay. Lovely surroundings, good location - close to Napier and Hastings, but away from the traffic noise. The hosts were friendly and obliging, and the breakfast was yummy. Would we stay here again? Definitely.
Wayne and Maree, New Plymouth. (February, 2015)
What a find. Travelling with overseas guests we were very pleased to arrive at Bellbird cottage to find that it exceeded our expectations. The overall presentation of the property was exceptional. The hosts are super friendly and knowledgeable of the area. The breakfast supplies were much appreciated, especially the fresh eggs. The BBQ was enjoyed. In fact we were sorry to leave!
Jackie & Michael, NZ (January 2015)
We booked online after reading reviews and hoped the cottages would be as good as they appeared on the web page. As seasoned travelers we are used to finding accommodation a little less than the photographs depict.
However, Clive Colonial Cottages were a delight - we were greeted with a warm welcome and taken through the beautiful garden to our cottage which was light, airy and very clean. Everything was provided, including breakfast for our first morning. The bed was really comfortable with plenty of pillows to choose from (especially good for me) The linen was crisp and white and fluffy white towels for the shower. We loved our stay so much we have already recommend Clive Cottages to our friends. Your establishment is professionally run with an eye for detail that excels. Thank you.
Mike and Diane Loake, NZ (December 2014)
Great spot. Admit we only stayed here because of a big event in Napier but so glad we did. A real peaceful haven, so quiet and comfortable and central to everything in Napier/Hastings. Every bit as good as it looks in the photos. A hidden gem, we will be back
Peter and Donna, NZ (December 2014)
A delightful place. Everything we needed. Beautifully furnished.
Great hosts. All conducive to make our stay in Hawkes Bay fantastic. We would recommend Clive Cottages to others and certainly stay there again.
Adrienne & Allan, NZ (November 2014)
Clive Colonial Cottages are THE BEST! Spotlessly clean, very comfortable and in a peaceful setting surrounded by beautiful gardens. We were in Hawkes Bay to enjoy the cycle trails mainly, and the position of our accommodation was perfect for this. Sandra and Neil are delightful hosts, so friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We will definitely recommend to family and friends.
Trudy and Bruce, NZ (November 2014)
We had a lovely stay, the cottage was beautifully appointed. Loved the breakfast supplies provided, a great touch. Would recommend and hope we can return again. Very welcoming owners.
Jo and Charles, NZ (October 2014)
We stayed recently for 2 nights in the Fantail cottage and it was just lovely! Perfectly clean with a cute little courtyard outside and breakfast provided for the first morning in our kitchenette which included eggs straight from their hens. The owners were very helpful and chatty letting us know all the best picks of the wineries and restaurants nearby; we had a great stay!
Emma and Ryan, Australia (August 2014)
Great place to stay, beautiful location/surroundings loved that you provided breakfast.
Will recommend it to friends.
Morva Millar, NZ (July 2014)
I've just booked in again, and have an excited wee flutter that I'm 'coming home-away-from-home' My job takes me to Hawkes Bay once a month. For well over a year now I've had the pleasure of being welcomed opened armed by Sandra, Neil and family for up to a week every month. I can't bring myself to stay anywhere else, even though I've had invitations to a variety of accommodations. Why would I? This place is PERFECT, and have loved it from the first, to every visit. Sandra and Neil are exceptional hosts. They go beyond. The cottages are warm in winter, a cool retreat in summer. The decor and surrounds are pristine, cosy, comfortable and inviting. There are so many extras ....generous breakfast supplies, including freshly laid eggs!, a BBQ area I've enjoyed throughout the year. Fresh oranges, lemons and mandarines I pluck fresh from the tree on the way to my cottage (just one a day I promise! haha). Powerpoints galore, every need and facility anticipated.
Tracey Byron, Wellington, NZ (July 2014
Fantastic quiet location for our needs to easily link up with the cycle trails and local attractions. Excellent quality, comfortable, warm and freshly modern throughout but with quaint cottage character. Terrific hosts, friendly and generous with breakfast and local knowledge. We would recommend to family and friends.
Tom & Deb, Tauranga, (August 2014)
My second time in Tui Cottage. It's a great place to stay. Friendly people, a beautiful location close to Napier and Hastings. Nothing beats sitting on the deck eating farm eggs on toast and a mug of tea, listening to the birds - best way to start the day!
Ian Johnson, NZ (May 2014)
Stayed in fantail cottage for two nights in February.had a wonderful stay, Sandra, Neil and family were great hosts and very helpful-extra touches were very nice. We loved the cottage and gardens, so peaceful and quiet and interior of cottage was very comfortable, tasteful and well equipped. We spent six weeks touring New Zealand and part of Australia and this was the best and our favourite of all our accomadation. Would highly recommend staying here. Thanks Sandra and Neil.
Trevor and Christine Barrett, England (February 2014)
What an absolutely delightful place to spend a weekend. The cottages are set in the most beautiful grounds with such a short distance to the sea and the cycle way, and so quiet. Neil and Sandra are wonderful hosts with nothing being too much trouble.
George and Marie Payne, NZ (April 2014)
What a find. Would have liked to stay longer. So modern, clean and handy to everything you could want yet tucked away in its own little oasis.
Being so close to all the bike trails was great, with walks along the rugged coastline an added bonus. Sandra and Neil (and family) were fantastic hosts.
Would definitely go back and recommend to friends
Karen & Ken, NZ (March 2014)
We stayed in Fantail Cottage in March 2014 and don't think we will find better accommodation during our visit to New Zealand. Sandra and Neil are fantastic hosts and do everything they can to make your stay enjoyable.
The cottages are beautifully furnished and equipped with high quality fittings and are set in a peaceful environment close to the sea and the vineyards. Clive Colonial Cottages certainly deserve the high ratings they have received from Lonely Planet and Tripadvisor. Bliss!
Colin and Marianne Porter, UK (March 2014)
What a find!!! If your looking for the perfect place to stay this is it. It will tick all your boxes. The location is great, the cottages and grounds are just beautiful and Sandra,Neil and family exceptional hosts.
This little gem made out holiday, was sad to leave.
Stuart and Petula McClatchy (February 2014)
We really appreciated your warm and friendly welcome and hospitality. The “Fantail” cottage was quite delightful, so quiet and peaceful in your lovely garden while being close to Napier, Hastings and coastal regions. We look forward to visiting again one day. Many thanks,
Maureen & Maurice, Jan 2014
We had a fantastic stay. Location is great, the cottages are perfect, and Sandra and Neil and children are warm, welcoming and perfect hosts. We will be sure to return.
Ben, Kylie and Cleo, NZ and UK, Jan 2014
These cottages are perfect for anyone who wants both cozy comfort and modernity in the heart of the beautiful agricultural area outside Napier, where we were much happier to stay than in town. It's a few hundred meters from a great beach- and vineyard path for anyone who wants a 3k walk or a 12k run. It's just a few miles from some of the finest wineries in the region, and 10 minutes to good dining. Rooms are cozy; beds are ultra-comfy; bathrooms are immaculate and modern. Necessities for morning coffee and toast are provided. You can pluck plums and citrus from their trees, in season. The cottages look out on a pretty courtyard. Service is impeccably friendly. The games room has a rather nice pool table in it. We felt very lucky finding this through on-line surfing: All so good we'd re-book in a heartbeat.
Scott Mowbray, Editor, Cooking Light magazine, USA, Dec 2013
We had a lovely time, thanks again for the hospitality and the tasty honey! We really enjoyed our stay and will write a very good rating at Tripadvisor when we are back in the Netherlands. We will definitely come back when we visit NZ again and recommend your cottages to friends and family.

We have stayed for 6 nights in October 2013 and enjoyed it. The Fantail cottage is small but very modern and everything is of a high quality. The garden is beautiful and provides a lot of privacy. Sandra & Neil were great hosts. We highly recommend this accommodation.
Marina & Igor Levine, NW, October 2013
We were guests in this cottage for 3 days in november 2013. The photos on the homepage have not promised too much. Home and garden are very very lovely designed and kept immaculate. The flat equipment is modern, absolutly comfortable an practical. It was the most enjoying and restful accommodation out of 7 cottages during our stay on the northern island. Many thanks for the outstanding friendly care and support to the owners
Henry and Astrid Marlow, Berlin, Dec 2013
What can we say? Fantastic friendly hosts, spotlessly clean cottages with numerous 'extra touches' like fresh eggs, cereals, etc. for breakfast, and set in stunning surroundings with superb weather thrown in for good measure! Clive Colonial Cottages was an ideal spot for our recent biking trip to Hawkes Bay with a group of Waikato friends. The cottages were superb for our needs, extremely well set out, beautiful garden and ideal locality to both Napier and Havelock North and of course the cycle tracks. We appreciated the provisions for breakfast and hospitality shown to us by Sandra and Neil. Well done. We will be back.

Central base for sightseeing of all areas - Napier, Havelock North and Hastings - though you will not want to leave your cottage or the comfortable bed. Warm hosts. Very clean room. Will tell our friends. Most try the 'Old Church Restaurnt' even if only for a cocktail - beautiful building, food and lovely fire in winter. (5 mintues drive from the cottages)
Theresa and Stephen,NZ, July 2012
One of the nicest places we have stayed in, anywhere. Very relaxing and quiet. Many thanks to Sandra and Neil for making our stay very pleasant.
Hope to see you again.

We stayed for 11 nights in January 2012 and loved it. Sandra, Neil and their children are fantastic hosts. Loved the peaceful surroundings, fresh eggs each morning and the short walk to a great pathway along the oceanfront. The best endorsement we can give is that we were sorry to leave and hope to get back there again soon.
Derek and Linda, Canada, February 14th, 2012
We would like to endorse the comments made in earlier feedbacks. We have just had a wonderful two nights in Tui Cottage - thankyou Neil and Sandra and family especially for those extra touches. Hope the rain stops long enough for the bees to work so you have a bountiful honey harvest
Ross and Vicky Sainsbury, Matamata, January 2012
My parents have just come back from staying in your Bellbird Cottage (with friends) and Mum and Dad have asked me to email you. They would like you to know that they had a fantastic time and are raving how gorgeous the cottages/surroundings are. They would like to thank you for the 'extras' (fresh eggs, cereals etc) which they thought were are lovely touch and a nice surprise. Also, they talked about how friendly you and your family are. So thank you once again on their behalf for a memorable stay.
(on behalf of Jim and Kath McLean, Trentham, Upper Hutt)
Lovely place to stay, very friendly hosts. I was in Hawkes Bay for work and chose to stay somewhere different, and was pleased I did, location has has the benefits of being away from the noise of the cities, and traffic but is still only 5-10 minutes drive from almost anywhere you would want to go.
Max Davey, Wellington, August 2011
